In the neighbouring suburb of Parkhurst , 4th Ave has become a favourite foodie haunt, but some of the best are not listed on the link above:
Bottega Very good bistro fare – pastas, salads, open sandwiches as well as more substantial meals 011 447-4448 open every night so good on Mondays when so many other places are closed.
Espresso café and bistro ; Always a safe bet but do not accept credit cards. Closed Mondays 011 447-8700
Parkhurst Square has several eateries which I haven’t eaten at yet but have had good reports: Simply Asia (074 870 2506), Coobs Bistro (011 447 0710) and a chain steak house restaurant from the past – Squires Loft, (011 025 8725) so popular in the late 1970s and early 80s.
The Jolly Rodger As its name suggests – a typical English pub. Great place to watch any sporting events. Linked to Jolly Cool opposite which is open till late for things more substantial than beer and chips . Cr 4th Ave and 6th St
At the corner of 3rd Ave and 7th Ave Parktown North there’s the gastro pub The Foundry as well as some specialist steak eateries: Wombles (quite formal) , The Local Grill (excellent steaks) and more everyday but very good steaks The Turn and Tender. At 43 7th ave is the very popular La Cucina di Ciro http://www.lacucinadiciro.co.za . Great setting, good food but very pricey. Opposite is The Full Stop which has wholesome ordinary food but a great outdoor courtyard with brazier fires in winter. Lovely on a summer’s evening or warm winter’s day. And you won’t have to struggle to park as they have designated secure parking in a lot on the opposite side of the road.
