Many guests who have stayed at Liz at Lancaster over the years have been fascinated with the idea of traditional medicine. Some of the more intrepid ones have made their way down to Diagonal Street in western downtown central Joburg where you can find The Museum of Man and Science. This part of town is vibrant [...]
Part of the entertainment landscape in Joburg in the mid 20th Century was the Drive-In Cinema. Sadly the last one, the Velskoen Drive -In, will disappear in a week or so. See http://findingjozi.co.za/reminiscing-an-ode-to-velskoen-drive-in/ I remember when I was about 10 or so my mother taking me to see what turned out to be quite a scary movie at [...]
Over ten years ago the concept of a Cultural Arc was mooted by Prof Carolyn Hamilton, then Head of the Humanities Postgraduate School at Wits. Sadly however, the guiding style and information provided can be a little superficial and descriptive, with in-depth information often tantalizingly lacking. But enjoy the outings. [...]

Ghandi arrived in Johannebsurg in 1893 and stayed at various places during the 12 years he was in Johannesburg. For more on this see Eric Itzkin’s excellent book [...]
Have posted before on what is new and happening in Braamfontein. The ‘Renaissance’ includes: the Neighbourhood Goods Market , the South Point building refurbishments for urban accommodation (sorely needed for Wits students), and the public art, starting with Van den Berg’s iconic Eland marking the entry into Braamies from the north and including the quirky metal trees [...]
