The AA’s assessor visits anually to monitor and check on the standards of the Guesthouse. Nothing escapes Bev Balusik’s eagle eye! Here are some comments from her report submitted to the board of the AA Quality Assurance:

easy instructions for complimentary internet access in rooms
various menus, maps, evacuation & fire procedures in all rooms, quality paper holder, recycling info on waste bins
generous DSTV in rooms
fridges stocked incl fresh milk, and so on.

Really excellent & indicative of high levels of general efficiency. The exceptional provision of guest comforts for both leisure & corporate guests and the high standards of personal yet professional service and hospitality continue to set this establishment at an exceptionally confident Superior level.

The nationwide winners of the 2011 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards were announced last night. Congratulations to 3 restaurants in the Parks Region who scooped awards. -

Best steakhouse countrywide: The Local Grill Parktown North
The City Press ViP Sunday Breakfast Award: The Salvation Cafe 44 Stanley Ave
no 7 in Best Restaurants nationwide D-W 11-13, Dunkeld Square (All other 9 restaurants in the top 10 were in the Cape.)

D-W 11-13 is 5 blocks from Liz at Lancaster, Parktown North is adjacent to Craighall Park. 44 Stanley is 10 minutes from Liz at Lancaster.

What makes Rosebank such a special leisure destination?

What makes Rosebank so different from say, for example, Sandton. While Sandton’s leisure and shopping area is focused on the huge enlcosed megamall of Sandton City and the central space of Mandela Square modelled on an Italian piazza. Rosebank however has a greater variety of smaller malls linked by open air areas each with their own different identity. There is the Rosebank Mall with its now famous Rooftop Market on a Sunday and Craft market all week, the Zone for urban fashion designers and Bollywood movies, the Zone 2 behind the Holiday Inne and the exclusive Firs linked to the Hyatt Hotel. What makes this such a fun urban area is the way in which these malls all interlink with open spaces filled with stalls, open-air eateries, gently flowing fountains and interesting arcades. Vovo Telo: A new addition to the 4th Ave Parkurst pavement chill

The service might be a little slow when it’s busy but the prices are VERY reasonable. Plus if they are full, they take your name and phone you when they have a table ready for you. This means you can wander off and do some browsing in some of the funs shops along 4th Ave. Not many restaurants will do that. Thumbs up to Vovo Telo. Two great travel industry awards for Liz at Lancaster

Liz at Lancaster received two great accolades at the AA Travel Guides American Express Awards on 8th May. The establishment was a finalist in the category Small Guesthouse with self-catering. Within this category received Highly Commended (ie came in the top 3). Then Liz and her staff also received the prestigious award for ‘People who go the extra mile’. A Great Honour.
