B & B Perfection

Liz at Lancaster is located in the cute suburb Craighall Park which has several restaurants and markets within walking distance. My husband and I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and we can say that Liz, the owner of the B & B has thought of every detail you could possibly desire in your room. She has several rooms varying in size all of which offer extreme privacy, great comfort, and perfect style. This place is perfect for any discerning traveler.

Two great travel industry awards for Liz at Lancaster

Liz at Lancaster received two great accolades at the AA Travel Guides American Express Awards on 8th May. The establishment was a finalist in the category Small Guesthouse with self-catering. Within this category received Highly Commended (ie came in the top 3). Then Liz and her staff also received the prestigious award for ‘People who go the extra mile’. A Great Honour. These ratings are based entirely on feedback given by guests. So thanks to all our guests who gave us their vote.

Liz at Lancaster is a finalist in the AA Accommodation Awards for 2011

Liz at Lancaster is a finalist in the 2011 AA Travel Guides American Express Accommodation Awards programme in the category B&B with Self-catering (small 1- 7 rooms). The awards are now in their 18th year and more than 41 000 consumers commented on approximately 1 100 AA Quality Assured or star-graded establishments across the country, either electronically or by completing guest critique forms. A total of 160 finalists in 36 categories were announced, including guest houses, B&Bs, self-catering apartments, game lodges and different types of hotels. Guests commented on aspects such as service levels, the quality of facilities, cleanliness, ambience and food. Convenor, Vanessa Sand, says all information received from guests, whether positive or negative, is sent back to participating establishments. “This assists owners or managers to improve certain aspects of their operations or to maintain existing high standards. The awards programme is therefore a very effective tool to respond to the needs of consumers and gives establishments a definite marketing edge.” High scoring establishments were examined carefully and were visited by qualified and experienced assessors to verify that the scores were justified. A list of the finalists is available on www.accommodationawards.co.za. The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony at Indaba in Durban on May 8.

Doodle 4 Google – “I love football” Doodle for Google was a competition where young people (4 to 17 year olds) from around the world were asked to design the Google logo in their very own style. The public in 17 countries voted for their favorite local doodle which appeared on the Google homepage of that country for a day. The 17 local winners were then put forward to a global vote, naming the single global winner of the entire contest: Barbara Szpirglas aged 14 from France.

Her doodle appears today July 11th on Google’s international homepages world wide and she also receives a family trip to South Africa, offered by the South African Tourism Board.

Nando’s have long been known for their topical ads whose cheeky and often subversive humour poke fun and ruffle feathers (an appropriate analogy for a fast food restaurant chain specializing in chicken). Their latest one is another classic:

Free Nando’s for Mexico – if they lose

Prior to yesterday’s game, Nando’s was offering the Mexican football team and their supporters a free lunch if they lost the opening game against South Africa . The ’small print’ of the ad reads: “Dear Mexican player, most foreigners think South Africa is rife with bribery and corruption. To live up to your misconceptions, we’re offering you – and your spectators – a free lunch if you lose tomorrow. Just bring your Mexican passport into any Nando’s restaurant between 14.00 and 17.00 and we’ll give you a delicious flame-grilled quarter chicken and chips each. Free.

P.S. If you don’t have a passport, we’re sure someone can arrange one for you.”

Gotta love it !! Anyway, sadly for SA , no free meals for Mexicans but good thing for Nando’s !

The AA and American Express annual awards dinner in Durban on 9th May

Liz at Lancaster entered the AA rating process where guests give feedback after their stay to assess the quality of the accommodation, its facilties and the service offered. Liz and her team at Liz at Lancaster : Zac, Catherine and Thandi, were really delighted that Liz at Lancaster reached the final round in the AA and American Express Awards in the category B&B/Guesthouse with S/C (1-7 rooms) . Congratulations to La Boheme Guest House in Upington on their win. The dinner was held in the Durban City Hall. Built in 1910, the year that the 2 republics and the 2 colonies were united into what is now known as South Africa , the grand neo- Baroque building typifies a colonial style. It was a wonderful setting for the banquet for some 400 people from all parts of South Africa. Sedate clapping, wild cheering and excited ululating, gave an indication of how the complete spectrum of South Africa was represented at these Awards.

It was a great evening with a delicious meal, interesting people, wonderful ambience and all organized with seeming effortless efficiency.

We hope to be back next year.
