At the Edge and Other Cato Manor Stories is a collection of short stories that won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Celebrated author and playwright Ronnie Govender was born in Cato Manor, Durban, in 1934. The multi-racial area became a symbol of apartheid manipulation after it was zoned as a whites-only area under the notorious Group Areas Act. The pathos and plight of those forcibly removed from their birthplace became the inspiration for Govender’s writings.
